CHATTOGRAM, Aug 29, 2025 (BSS) - Chattogram City Corporation Mayor Dr Shahadat Hossain proposed bringing the areas surrounding the Karnaphuli River tunnel under the jurisdiction of the City Corporation to maximize its economic potential and profitability.
He underscored the importance of proper utilization of the tunnel, saying it could play a vital role in stimulating the city's economic activities.
"The surrounding areas must be brought under the City Corporation to ensure the tunnel is used efficiently and contributes to economic growth," Dr Shahadat said while addressing as the chief guest at the inauguration of the reconstruction work of Baitun Noor Central Jame Masjid at Boalia in Anwara upazila.
Regarding the development of Anwara upazila, the mayor regretted that the area had witnessed little development over the last 16 years due to neglect.
He assured that if BNP comes to power in the future, comprehensive development initiatives will be launched in the region.
The event was attended by BNP Central Executive Committee member Sarwar Jamal Nizam, BNP leader M Manjur Uddin Chowdhury and several former local government officials.
