JAMALPUR, Sept 7, 2025 (BSS) - A pre-preparatory meeting ahead of the upcoming Durga Puja was held at the conference room of the Deputy Commissioner's office in the town this morning.
Deputy Commissioner Hasina Begum presided over the meeting, while Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Iftekhar Yunus moderated the session.
Officials from different government agencies, including Upazila Nirbahi Officers (UNOs), members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), Police, Ansar, National Security Intelligence (NSI), as well as journalists, and Presidents and General Secretaries of the Bangladesh Puja Udjapan Parishad at district and upazila levels, attended the meeting.
Speakers at the meeting said the Hindu community has long been celebrating Durga Puja in the district with communal harmony. They expressed optimism that the upcoming festival would also be observed peacefully, thanks to the prevailing atmosphere of religious tolerance and cooperation in the district.
Deputy Commissioner Hasina Begum assured that all necessary measures would be taken to ensure a peaceful and festive celebration.
She said a four-tier security system will be implemented at every Puja mandap, which will include monitoring through closed-circuit cameras to maintain law and order. She also urged everyone to refrain from spreading rumors and work together to uphold peace during the festival.
Among others, Additional Superintendent of Police Sohel Mahmud, Deputy Director of Islamic Foundation Md Ali Zinnah, President of the Bangladesh Puja Udjapan Parishad (Jamalpur district unit) Prodip Kumar Som Ranu and its General Secretary Siddhartha Sankar Roy, and BSS district correspondent Md Mukhlesur Rahman spoke at the meeting.
A total of 207 Puja mandaps will be set up across the district this year. The festival will begin on September 28 with Shashthi and conclude on October 2 with the immersion of the idols of Goddess Durga.
