SHARIATPUR, Sept 07, 2025(BSS) - Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested three accused of sensational Khabir Sardar and Almas Sardar murder cases in Jajira upazila of the district.

A team of RAB-8, acting on secret information, arrested them from separate drives in Gazipur and Shariatpur on Saturday night, police sources said here today. 

The arrested persons are - Delwar Hossain alias Gagon (60), Kamal Sardar (39) and Md Danesh Sardar (59).

Commanding Officer (CO) of RAB-8 Mir Monir Hossain said that they arrested Delwar Hossain Gagon and Kamal Sardar from Bholartek area under Tongi West Police Station for their alleged involvement in Khabir Sardar murder. 

The RAB team arrested Danesh Sardar from Alurbazar Ferry Ghat area under Sakhipur Thana of Shariatpur district for his alleged involvement in Almas Sardar murder case.

According to police, Khabir Sardar was attacked by a gang of miscreants at Umar Uddin Matbarkandi area under Jajira upazila at about 9:00pm on August 26 last. He was immediately taken to Jajira Upazila Health Complex where the attending doctors declared him dead. 

Danesh Sardar, a brother of Khabir Sardar, filed a case with Jajira police mentioning the names of 18 people for the killing.

On the other hand, Almas Sardar was also attacked by miscreants at the same area at about 8.30pm on that night. The gang killed Almas Sardar by drowning him into a pond at that time. His body was later dumped in a bag and buried at the area.

Jajira police on August 28 recovered the body of Almas Sardar from the area. 

Later, Lipi Begum, sister of the victim, filed a case accusing 25 people for the killing.

Both the killings created sensation among the locals and they became frightened over the killings.

Legal measures have been taken against the arrested persons and such operations would be continued to nab other criminals, the RAB CO added.
