RANGPUR, Sept 7, 2025 (BSS) - Speakers at a panel discussion here today said that air pollution is the biggest risk to environmental health. Therefore, everyone must act responsibly to ensure healthy air for all and protect the environment.
They said that air pollution exacerbates climate change and causes economic losses. So everyone must actively work to address air pollution and achieve transformative change to ensure healthy air for all.
Development of Poor Society (DOPS), an NGO, organised the event marking the International Clean Air Day for Blue Skies 2025 at the Robertsonganj School and College auditorium in the city.
With the support of Just Energy Transition Network Bangladesh, DOPS organised the event with financial assistance of Action Aid with the theme 'Pledge of Fair Energy, Clean Air is the Right of Everyone'.
At the event, Alifa Tanzim, senior teacher of Robertsonsganj School and College, presented a documentary on environment and nature, fair energy and clean air.
Senior teacher of the institution Rawshan Jamil moderated the panel discussion.
Robertsonganj School and College Principal and a senior journalist Md Zakir Hossain, DOPS Executive Director Ujjwal Kumar Chakraborty and Adarsha High School teacher Abdullah Al Harun spoke on the ocassion.
About 150 students from Robertsonganj School and College and Adarsha High School of Rangpur city, teachers and guests participated in the panel discussion.
The speakers said that the International Day of Clean Air for Blue Skies is observed annually on September 7 across the globe to raise awareness about the critical need to combat air pollution and improve air quality.
Ujjwal Kumar Chakraborty said the day serves as a global call to action, emphasizing the link between clean air, human health and well-being of the planet and highlighting the importance of collective efforts and investment in achieving cleaner air for all.
"Observance of the day highlights the devastating effects of air pollution on human health, economies, and the environment, and to promote international cooperation to address the problem," he said.
Abdullah Al Harun said that air pollution is a major environmental threat to human health, causing avoidable deaths and diseases globally, with
disproportionate impacts on vulnerable groups like women, children, and the elderly.
He stressed on increasing investment, stronger partnerships and shared responsibility to tackle air pollution, linking it to climate change
mitigation efforts and the Sustainable Development Goals to create a global community of action for cleaner air for all.
Later, honorary crests were distributed among the participating students, teachers and guests in the panel discussion.
