KHULNA, Sept 16, 2025 (BSS) – A tree plantation campaign has been launched to create buffer along the coastline of Koyra upazila in Khulna district aiming to protect the region from natural disaster alongside maintaining environmental balance.

The tree plantation programme began on Monday (yesterday) with the plantation of saplings of various fruit, timber, and medicinal trees on the premises of Ghugrakati Fazil Madrasa in the district. Shamsur Rahman Foundation and Siratul Huda Trust jointly organized the tree plantation campaign.

Local leaders of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami,  representatives of  Shamsur Rahman Foundation and Siratul Huda Trust, teachers and students, among others were present on the occasion.

At the programme, speakers urged the people to plant saplings of different varieties of trees during the rainy season to achieve financial benefit side by side protecting environment.

Tree plantation is very crucial for costal belt as different natural events including cyclone, riverbank erosion and tidal surge hit the region every year. So, both government and private initiatives are needed to continue the tree plantation programme in the coastal region.
