3 killed in separate road accidents in Cox's Bazar

COX'S BAZAR, April 28, 2026 (BSS) - At least three people were killed and seven others injured in separate road accidents in Chakaria and Teknaf upazilas of the district this morning.

According to highway police, the accidents occurred between 8:00am and 10:00am in different locations along the Chattogram-Cox's Bazar highway and Marine Drive road.

An accident took place around 10 am when a Chattogram-bound bus collided head-on with a covered van in Malumghat area of Chakaria, leaving the bus assistant driver M Yunus, 55, dead on the spot and five others injured, said Sub-Inspector Mohammad Ziauddin of Malumghat Highway Police Outpost.

The injured were taken to Malumghat Christian Memorial Hospital. Police seized the covered van, though its driver and helper fled the scene.

In another accident in Harbang area of Chakaria, motorcyclist Md. Mizanur Rahman died after being struck by a bus. He was a medical representative at Popular Pharmaceuticals PLC and a resident of Dohazari Municipality in Chattogram.

Besides, Saudi expatriate Muktar Ahmed, 40, was killed in a road accident in Rajarchhara area along the Marine Drive road in Teknaf upazila around 8:00am. He was the son of the late Zafar Ahmed of the locality.

Officer-in-Charge Muhammad Saiful Islam of Teknaf Model Police Station said two others, including a pedestrian, were seriously injured. They were first taken to Teknaf Upazila Health Complex and later referred to Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital for advanced treatment.
