CHATTOGRAM, Sept 23, 2025 (BSS) – Two more people, who were critically injured in a gas cylinder explosion at a warehouse in Chandanaish upazila, died while undergoing treatment at the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery (NIBPS) in Dhaka this morning, family members confirmed.

The deceased were identified as Md Harun, 30, son of Nurul Islam of Chhaiyadabad in Chandanaish upazila, and Md Saleh Uddin, 17, son of the late Abdul Jalil of Hashimpur union under the same upazila.

With the latest deaths, the toll from the incident has risen to five.

Local primary school teacher Monirul Islam Chowdhury said both victims succumbed to their injuries early today at NIBPS.

Earlier, gas cylinder shop owner Mahbubur Rahman, 45, Md Idris, 26, of Chhaiyadabad in Chandanaish upazila, and Md Yusuf, 30, of Cox's Bazar district also died from burn injuries sustained in the blast.

The explosion occurred on the morning of September 17 at a gas cylinder warehouse in Charati Char area, near the border of Chandanaish and Satkania upazilas.

Five others are still receiving treatment in different hospitals in Chattogram and Dhaka.
