KHULNA, Oct 6, 2025 (BSS) - Khulna Metropolitan Police (KMP) in a drive on Sunday evening evicted illegal shops from city footpaths to ensure the smooth movement of pedestrians.

A KMP team, led by Assistant Police Commissioner (Traffic) Khondokar Hossain Ahmed, removed makeshift shops and signboards from footpaths in the busiest areas of the city from 5pm to 8pm yesterday.

The eviction drive covered footpaths from Shibbari to Dawkbangla Intersection and from Moylapota to Islami Bank Intersection in Sonadanga and Khulna Sadar Thana areas.

Khondokar Hossain Ahmed said that due to the installation of signboards and temporary shops on footpaths, pedestrians were forced to walk on the roads, creating traffic congestion and increasing the risk of accidents.

To improve this situation, the eviction drive was carried out jointly by the KMP Traffic Department and local police stations.

"The main goal of this eviction was to completely free up the sidewalks for the movement of common people," he said, adding that the drives will continue on other busy footpaths as well.
