Sramik Dal leader killed in Barishal road accident

BARISHAL, Oct 8, 2025 (BSS) - A local Sramik Dal leader was killed and two others were critically injured after being hit by a speeding vehicle in Uzirpur upazila of the district early today.

The incident occurred around 2:30am in front of Bepari House on the Natun Shikarpur highway.

The deceased, Sagar Molla, 24, was the son of Mohammad Jahangir Molla of Sakral village in Uzirpur. He served as the vice-president of Ward No. 8 of Borakotha union under the upazila.

According to local residents, a group of suspected cattle thieves attempted to flee after stealing cows and calves from the house of Anis Hawlader in Sakral village. Villagers, including Sagar, tried to intercept them on the highway. 

During the confrontation, a speeding truck ran over three people. Sagar died on the spot, while Nayeem Hawlader and Kawser Hawlader sustained critical injuries and were rushed to Barishal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital.

The body of Sagar Molla has been sent to the morgue for autopsy.
Uzirpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Abdus Salam confirmed the incident, saying legal procedures are underway. "We are working to identify and apprehend those involved," he added.
