SIRAJGANJ, Oct 8, 2025 (BSS) - A total of 10,39,983 children aged between nine months and under 16 years will be vaccinated against typhoid in all nine upazilas of Sirajganj district under the upcoming Typhoid Vaccination Campaign-2025.
Vaccination will begin on October 12, with 5,556 vaccination centres set up across the district, including 15 permanent, 2,112 temporary centres at school and community levels, and 3,429 centres at schools under the Expanded Program on Immunization (EPI).
The information was revealed by Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Nazrul Islam while addressing a district-level workshop with media personals at the Shaheed Shamsuddin Conference Room of the Collectorate Building on Wednesday afternoon.
Organized by the District Information Office with financial support from UNICEF Bangladesh, the workshop was held under the project titled "Awareness Campaign for the Development of Children, Adolescents, and Women."
In his speech, the Deputy Commissioner highlighted the crucial role of the media in raising awareness and ensuring the success of the nationwide vaccination campaign.
"Typhoid is a preventable disease, and there is no reason to fear the vaccine. Parents and guardians should be encouraged to bring children to vaccination centres on the scheduled date," he said, calling for strong community participation and proactive media support to prevent misinformation.
UNICEF Consultant Dr Rezaur Rahman presented details of the campaign through a PowerPoint presentation, while UNICEF Rajshahi and Rangpur Divisional Chief AH Toufiq Ahmed was also present.
Sirajganj Civil Surgeon Dr Nurul Amin, Additional Deputy Commissioner Ganapati Roy, Deputy Director of District Information Office Mohammad Ali, Deputy Director of Islamic Foundation Md Faruk Hossain, and President of Sirajganj Press Club Md Harun Or Rashid Khan Hasan also spoke on the occasion.
