FARIDPUR, Oct 8, 2025 (BSS) - A court here today sentenced a man to life imprisonment for raping a schoolgirl in Sadarpur upazila of the district in 2021.

The court also fined convict Shahin Chowdhury, 40, son of Mannan Chowdhury of Shauldubi Abuler Mor village in Sadarpur upazila, Taka 50,000.

Judge of Women and Child Abuse Prevention Tribunal Shamima Parveen delivered the verdict this afternoon in presence of the convict, said public prosecutor of the court Advocate Golam Rabbani Bhuiyan Ratan.

According to prosecution, convict Shahin used to disturb the girl. On March 27, 2021, Shahin Chowdhury raped the girl forcibly. 

Two days after the incident, the student's mother filed a case with Sadarpur Police Station under the Prevention of Women and Child Abuse Act. 

After the case, the investigating officer filed a charge sheet before the court.
