Call for media to play important role in preventing typhoid

RANGPUR, Oct 8, 2025 (BSS) - Speakers at an orientation workshop today called 
on the mass media to play their important role in creating social awareness 
for preventing typhoid because the disease spreads through contaminated food 
and water.

They also said that typhoid disease becomes fatal if not diagnosed and 
treated on time.

They expressed the view at the workshop held at the Deputy Commissioner's 
conference room for successful implementation of Typhoid Vaccination 
Campaign-2025 in the district.
 
The District Information Office under the special promotion activities on 
Typhoid Vaccination organized the event under the "Awareness Promotion 
Activities for Child, Adolescent and Women Development" project, with the 
support of UNICEF Bangladesh.

Local journalists of the print, electronics and online media participated in 
the workshop.
 
Rangpur Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Rabiul Faisal spoke as the chief guest 
at the event. 
 
Assistant Director of the District Information Office Md Alamgir Kabir 
presented an introductory speech and a power point presentation on Typhoid 
Vaccination.
 
Rangpur Civil Surgeon Dr Shaheen Sultana, District Primary Education Officer 
Md Nazrul Islam, Social and Behaviour Change Officer at UNICEF Rangpur Field 
Office Monjur Ahmed delivered their speeches as resource persons. 
 
Director (Administration and Finance) of the Department of Mass Communication 
Md Syed A Mumen spoke virtually at the event. 
 
The chief guest said that the journalists can play the most important and 
active role in creating social awareness and conveying correct information 
about the typhoid vaccine to the people and students as well. 
 
Regarding the spread of misinformation regarding vaccination, he said that 
many people are spreading misinformation about vaccination. Effective steps 
need to be taken to prevent this misinformation. 
 

"In this regard, the media workers can play an essential role in making 
people and students aware to make the typhoid vaccination campaign a 
success," he said.
