RANGPUR, Oct 9, 2025 (BSS) - A mobile court today fined a factory owner Nur Mohammad Taka two lakh and sentenced him to three months' imprisonment for non-payment of fine for producing adulterated molasses (jaggery) at Darshana of Rangpur city.

Led by Rangpur Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer and Executive Magistrate Md Saiful Islam, the court conducted the anti-adulteration drive at Messer's 'Ma-Babar Doa' jaggery factory there on Thursday afternoon.

During the raid, the mobile court found evidence that the factory was producing jaggery using a large amount of chemicals, industrial colors, rotten sweets and low-quality ingredients.

The Executive Magistrate Saiful Islam told reporters that jaggery was being prepared using illegal products in a way that is seriously harmful to human health.

"Therefore, as the crime was proven, a fine of Taka two lakh was imposed on the factory owner as per the Safe Food Act 2013, three months' jail for non-payment, and the factory has been declared closed," he said.

He said, "The administration's campaign against adulterated and low-quality food production will continue. No institution that poses a health risk to people will be spared."
