CHATTOGRAM, Oct 20, 2025 (BSS) - A Chattogram court has sentenced NGO
official Syed Hasanuzzaman Loton to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment in two
separate cases filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) for embezzling
government funds meant for landless people in Fatikchhari upazila of the
district.
Judge Md Mizanur Rahman of the Chattogram Divisional Special Judge's Court
delivered the verdict today.
Loton, Secretary General of the NGO "Rehabilitation and Development
Organization for Landless (Radon)", based on Mohammadpur Iqbal Road in Dhaka,
was found guilty of misappropriating Taka 2,23,170 from Taka12 lakh allocated
under a Land Ministry project for distributing loans to landless families in
10 model villages of Chattogram district.
He is the son of late Syed MN Huda of Shimultali Road, Akurtakur Para, under
Sadar Police Station in Tangail district.
According to case records, ACC Assistant Inspector Chowdhury MN Alam filed
two cases against Loton with Fatikchhari Police Station on May 18, 2023.
After investigation, the ACC submitted charge sheets to the court.
ACC lawyer Advocate Md Rezaul Karim Roni said the court found Loton guilty of
embezzling Taka 79,170 in one case and sentenced him to five years' rigorous
imprisonment under Section 409 of the Penal Code, along with a fine of Taka
79,170.
In another case, ACC lawyer Advocate Mohammad Kabir Hossain said Loton was
found guilty of embezzling Taka 1,44,000 and was handed another five years of
rigorous imprisonment and fined the same amount.
Loton was absent during the verdict and has been declared a fugitive. The
court also issued an arrest warrant against him.
Earlier, on September 21, 2023, the same court sentenced Loton to four years'
imprisonment in a separate ACC case involving misappropriation of government
loan funds allocated for landless people in Fatikchhari.
