Campaign on climate-resilient fish farming held in Khulna

KHULNA, Oct 23, 2025 (BSS) - A campaign to raise awareness about climate-resilient fish farming was held today at Shovna Birajmoyi Secondary School field in Dumuria upazila to help fishers and farmers adapt to climate change impacts.

The Department of Fisheries organized the event under the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations project.

Khulna District Fisheries Officer Md Badruzzaman attended as chief guest with School Governing Body President Md Moslem Uddin in the chair. Dumuria Upazila Senior Fisheries Officer Sohel Md Jillur Rahman Rigan, Acting Headmaster Michael Mallik, and FAO representatives Dr Rafiqul Islam Khan and Md Mashudur Rahman Jiaul Haque also spoke.

Speakers stressed adopting adaptive practices such as maintaining pond depth, using quality fish species, and improving water management to cope with salinity, floods, and cyclones.

An awareness rally was also brought out through Sharafpur and Taiyabpur fishing villages promoting sustainable aquaculture for resilience and better livelihoods.
