National swimming concludes with domination of Navy

DHAKA, Oct 23, 2025 (BSS) - Five more new national records have been set on 
the last day of the Max Group 34th National Swimming, Diving and Water Polo 
Competition held at National Swimming Complex in Mirpur today (Thursday).

Bangladesh Navy emerged as the champion winning a total of 69 medals, 
including 35 gold, 23 silver and 11 bronze. 

Bangladesh Army became runners-up with 10 gold, 21 silver and 29 bronze 
medals and Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protishthan (BKSP) finished third place 
with four gold, five silver and nine bronze medals. Bangladesh Police secured 
fourth in water polo with one bronze medal.

In total, 20 new national records were set over the last four days of the 
meet.

Though Navy's promising swimmer Samiul Islam Rafi has been breaking records 
for the past three days, but on the last day, his teammate swimmer Kajal Mia 
stole the show by setting up new national records in two events.

Kazol broke Jewel Ahmed's 2022 record in the men's 400m individual medley 
clocking 4:39.86 seconds, well ahead of Jewel's 4:46.13 seconds and again set 
the new national mark in the 400m freestyle with a time of 4:6.44 seconds 
erasing his 2023 own previous mark.
 
In total, Kajal Mia set a total of four new national records in the 
competition. However, on the last day, Samiul Islam Rafi lost to his teammate 
Asif Reza in his individual event of 50m freestyle and finished second 
position.

New records were also set among women swimmers. BKSP's Jui Akhter set a new 
national record in the 400m individual medley with a time of 5:37.01 seconds.
 
In addition, Navy's Juthi Akter set new national records in the women's 50-
meter freestyle and the 4x100m medley relay.

In the men's category, Samiul Islam Rafi of the Bangladesh Navy was adjudged 
the 'Best Swimmer' after winning 6 gold and 1 silver medals (six new national 
records).
 
In the women's category, Bangladesh Army's Romana Akhter was adjudged the 
best swimmer after winning five gold and three silver medals (three new 
national records).

In diving event, Navy's Emon Hossain was named as the best player in the 
men's category after winning one gold and equal number of silver medals while 
BKSP's Nandini Pahan was adjudged as the best player in the women's category 
after winning three gold medals.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh Army emerged the champions and Bangladesh Navy finished 
runners-up in the water polo event. 

Bangladesh Navy became champions and BKSP finished runner-up in the diving 
event.

Bangladesh Swimming Federation president and Chief of Naval Staff Admiral 
Mohammad Nazmul Hassan was the chief guest and distributed the prizes after 
the competition.
