PATUAKHALI, Nov 10, 2025 (BSS) - Police have arrested an Awami League leader in connection with the vandalism of a BNP office in Dumki upazila of the district.

The arrested man was identified as Khabir Uddin, 50, a member of the upazila Awami League and former vice-president of the Pangasia union Awami League.

Confirming the arrest, Dumki Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Zakir Hossain said that Khabir Uddin was detained during a police drive on the eastern side of the upazila gate late Sunday night. He was produced before the court on Monday morning.

According to police and case details, the incident dates back to 2022, when the Dumki upazila BNP office was allegedly attacked and vandalized during a BNP protest organized as part of a nationwide programmme protesting the rise in commodity prices.

Following the mass uprising of students and the public on August 5, 2024, BNP leader Md. Mortuza Billah filed a case with Dumki Police Station on November 7, 2025. Khabir Uddin was shown arrested in connection with that case.

Police said further investigation into the incident is underway.
