LALMONIRHAT, Nov 20, 2025 (BSS) - A mobile court in Patgram upazila today sentenced three people to seven days of non-rigorous imprisonment for illegally extracting sand from rivers and agricultural land.

Acting on information about illicit sand extraction and trading in the Mirjarcourt and Mominpur areas, the mobile court, led by Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) and Executive Magistrate Uttam Kumar Das, conducted a raid and detained the trio.

The convicted individuals are Hamidul Islam, 22, of Mominpur village under Jongra Union; Firoz Hasan, 24, of the Mirjarcourt area of Patgram municipality; and Gautam Mondal, 34, of Tushvandar village under Kaliganj upazila.

According to the upazila administration, the three were involved in extracting sand and stockpiling it for sale in violation of existing regulations. They were later produced before the court, which handed down seven days of non-rigorous imprisonment to each of them.

Sub-Inspector Sohag of Patgram Police Station, along with a police team assisted in the operation.

Speaking about the drive, UNO and Executive Magistrate Uttam Kumar Das said the operation aimed to curb illegal sand extraction and similar actions would continue in the future.
