Natore sugar mill begins sugarcane threshing

NATORE, Nov 21, 2025 (BSS) - Natore sugar mill started its 42nd sugarcane threshing operation this afternoon, aiming for increased production in the new season. 

The mill has a target to produce 6,930 tons of sugar by threshing 110,000 tons of sugarcane, Managing Director of Natore Sugar Mill Krishibid Md Akhlasur Rahman said.

Bangladesh Sugar and Food Industries Corporation Director Azharul Islam inaugurated the sugarcane threshing activities at its premises at a function with Md Akhlasur Rahman in the chair.

Among others, North Bengal Sugar Mill Managing Director Md Farid Hossain Bhuiyan, Additional Superintendent of Police Md Iftekhar Alam, senior assistant commissioner of the district Dr Tahmidul Islam, Jamaat Ameer Prof Yunus Ali, Sugarcane farmer Federation president Moslem Uddin Pramanik were present.

This season, sugarcane has been cultivated on the land within the mill's operational area. To support farmers, the mill authorities have disbursed Taka 9.30 crore in loans for seeds, fertilizers, and cash assistance. 

Additionally, the purchase price of sugarcane at the farmer level has been raised from Taka 6,000 to 6,250 per ton, offering growers a better return on their produce.

Last season, the mill had set a target to produce 5,300 tons of sugar by threshing 90,000 tons of sugarcane. However, it surpassed expectations by producing 6,148 tons of sugar after threshing 107,775 tons of cane.
