RANGPUR, Dec 1, 2025 (BSS) - The newly-appointed Superintendent of Police (SP) in Rangpur Md Marufat Hussaine has said that there will surely be a fair, impartial and transparent election which will break all past records in Bangladesh.
"We will work for the nation by forgetting all differences. We know how the past elections went, let it not be repeated. This time, we are sure that there will be a beautiful and fearless election without any kind of fear this time," he said.
SP Marufat Hussaine said this while exchanging views with local journalists at his meeting room in the city on Monday afternoon.
He said the sacrifices of those who have been discriminated against for various reasons and those who have been martyred during the July Uprising should not go in vain.
He said, "Journalists are the eyes and ears of society. We do not have the manpower compared to our needs. We get a lot of information through journalists to maintain a good law and order situation."
It is the constitutional responsibility of the police to provide security to the people. Journalists also have a responsibility. Both police and journalists should work keeping both responsibilities in mind.
Praising the journalists who filmed the shooting of martyr Abu Sayeed during the July Movement, the new SP said that journalists have recorded the video of Abu Sayeed being shot at risk of their lives and presented to the nation.
"As a result, the people of the country have taken to the streets. The nation has benefited today due to the role of journalists," he said.
The government is taking all preparatory activities forward step by step by announcing the possible date of the 13th Jatiya Sangsad elections in February, he continued.
"The government is doing a lot of work and the appointment of SPs across the country is also a part of it. We will all together give a fair election. We want to practice well," the SP added.
Additional SP (Crime and Ops) Susanta Chandra Roy, Additional SP (Administration and Finance) Md Joynal Abedin and local journalists working in print, electronic and online media were present at the view-exchange meeting.
