Narail, Dec 9, 2025 (BSS) - Narail Free Day will be observed tomorrow. On December 10, 1971, the then sub-division under Jashore district was liberated from the Pakistan occupation forces, and freedom fighters hoisted the flag of independent Bangladesh in the town.

To mark the day, the district administration has arranged an elaborate programme, including placing wreaths at the 'Baddhovumi' (killing ground) near the judge's court and the mass graveyard on the premises of the Water Development Board office, followed by a discussion at the deputy commissioner's conference room in the morning. DC Dr. Mohammad Abdul Salam will attend the programme.

According to Liberation War records, from the very beginning, the Pakistan army set up camps in Dak Banglo and the Water Development Board premises in the Rupganj area of the district with the cooperation of local collaborators and carried out acts of genocide.

On the morning of December 8, 1971, freedom fighters attacked the Pakistan army at Lohagora Thana and took control of the area. Kalia was liberated the following day.

On December 9 and 10, 1971, a group of freedom fighters positioned themselves near the Narail Water Development Board (WDB) and opened fire on the Pakistan occupation forces, who retaliated indiscriminately.

At the end of the fighting, freedom fighters captured a total of 40 Pakistani soldiers. Upon hearing the news of the Pakistan forces' defeat, people from nearby villages encircled the town, and the freedom fighters finally took control of the camp.

People chanted slogans as the freedom fighters hoisted the flag of independent Bangladesh in the town.
