KURIGRAM, Dec 19, 2025 (BSS) - A three-day Ijtema, the largest Islamic congregation in northern Bangladesh, commenced in Kurigram on Thursday, attracting thousands of devotees from across the country.

The formal programme began after Zuhr prayers with the inaugural sermon at the Fazlul Karim (R) Jamia Islamia ground, located near the eastern bank of the Dharla Bridge in Kurigram Sadar.

Organizers said the main sessions of the Ijtema will continue today and conclude on Saturday.

Pir of Charmonai, Mufti Syed Muhammad Rezaul Karim, is attending the event as the chief guest, while Mufti Syed Muhammad Faizul Karim will deliver special sermons.

Renowned Islamic scholars are scheduled to speak throughout the three-day programme, focusing on the principles of Islam, self-purification, and the Islamic way of life.

The district administration has made extensive arrangements to ensure security and a peaceful environment during the Ijtema. Facilities for safe drinking water, medical support, and volunteer assistance have been provided for participants.

The congregation will end with the Akheri Munajat following Fajr prayers on December 21.
