RANGPUR, Dec 30, 2025 (BSS) - Rangpur district and metropolitan units of Ganosamhati Andolon (GSA) on Tuesday expressed deep shock at the death of former Prime Minister and BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia.
In a condolence message, GSA Rangpur district convener Touhidur Rahman, member-secretary Mufakhkharul Islam Moon and metropolitan convener Abdul Jabbar Sarkar expressed deep sorrow and conveyed condolences to the bereaved family and myriad admirers.
They said Khaleda led the democratic struggle of the people of Bangladesh by becoming a symbol of unwavering courage against the Ershad dictatorship. She has established herself as an uncompromising leader among the people.
Her death will create a deep void in the democratic politics of Bangladesh.
“We remember her strong role in protecting the independence and sovereignty of the country despite political differences with respect,” the GSA leaders said in the condolence message.
Her unwavering role during the 1/11 government has made an important contribution to the re-establishment of democracy in the country. She was also a source of courage for the people against the fascist regime of Sheikh Hasina.
“Begum Khaleda Zia gave priority to the struggle for establishing democracy. She always tried to protect the dignity of the people of Bangladesh who had placed their trust in her leadership,” the GSA leaders said.
Her decision to boycott the elections under Sheikh Hasina and pave the way for the mass uprising was one of the decisive factors.
After the mass uprising, she became the political guardian of this country.
“Her death is an irreparable loss in our national life. We pray for the peace of her departed soul and express our full sympathy to the bereaved family, party and people,” they said in the message.
