Bullet-injured July warrior Shafiqul Islam dies

MYMENSINGH, Dec 30, 2025 (BSS) - Shafiqul Islam Shafique, a government-listed July warrior who sustained bullet injuries during the July mass uprising, died this evening after battling complications for nearly one and a half years.

Shafique died of pneumonia around 7:00 pm while undergoing treatment at Shahid Tajuddin Ahmed Medical College Hospital in Gazipur.

Shafique, son of Abdus Samad, hailed from Darshapara village of Haluaghat upazila in Mymensingh district. He had been living with his family in Tongi East under Gazipur City Corporation. His gazette number was 722.

He was shot in the left thigh while participating in the mass uprising at Azampur in Uttara at noon on August 5 last year. Following the incident, he was first taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) and later shifted to the National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopaedic Rehabilitation (NITOR).

After sustaining the bullet injury, Shafique underwent prolonged treatment at several hospitals, but his health condition continued to deteriorate.

His namaj-e-janaza will be held at 10:00 am tomorrow at the Mama Pagla Mosque premises in Darshapara of Haluaghat upazila. He will be laid to rest at his family graveyard in the village.
