COX’S BAZAR, Jan 10, 2026 (BSS) — One hour cleanup campaign at the world’s longest sandy sea beach in Cox’s Bazar collected 250 kilograms of plastic and other waste this morning.
The drive was carried out at Laboni Point by 120 volunteers under the joint initiative of NGO YPSA and several youth organizations active in Cox’s Bazar.
Chattogram City Corporation Mayor Dr. Shahadat Hossain attended the campaign as chief guest.
In his inaugural speech, he stressed the importance of youth participation in ensuring eco-friendly urban and tourism management, reducing plastic pollution, and safeguarding public health.
“Cox’s Bazar is a source of national pride and keeping the beach clean and environmental friendly is the responsibility of all citizens,” he said.
He further emphasized the need for controlling plastic use in beach areas and reducing single-use plastics through collective efforts to build a green, healthy and safer city.
The campaign aimed to spread awareness about reducing plastic pollution, protecting the environment, and promoting sustainable tourism.
The campaign was organized by YPSA with support from Chattogram City Corporation and Tourist Police Cox’s Bazar Region.
Founder and Chairman of Cox’s Bazar International University Mohammad Mujibur Rahman and Founder and Chief Executive of YPSA Dr. Md. Arifur Rahman joined the campaign as special guests.
Volunteers from 12 youth organizations, local representatives, media workers, and tourist police joined the initiative.
The collected 250 kilograms of waste was handed over to the authorities for eco-friendly management.
