KHULNA, Jan 11, 2026 (BSS) - A youth was shot dead by miscreants at Purba Rupsa area in Khulna in the early hours today.

The victim was identified as Abdul Rashed, also known as Pikul, 30, son of Abdul Awal of Bagmara area under Rupsa upazila in the district.

The incident occurred around 1.00 am at the Kadamtala Balu Maath area, where assailants opened fire targeting him with the intent to kill. Hearing the gunshots, locals rushed to the spot and found Pikul critically injured.

He was immediately taken to Khulna Medical College Hospital (KMCH), where he succumbed to his injuries.

Confirming the incident, Rupsa Police Station's Inspector (Investigation) Md Sabur said that several shots were fired at Pikul by a group of miscreants, one of the shots hit him in the chest, causing him to collapse on the spot. 

The attackers fled as local residents gathered after hearing the gunshots.

The police official added that Pikul has several allegations against him with the Rupsa Police Station.

Police have launched an investigation to identify and arrest those involved in the killing.
