3 kidnapping gang members held with drugs, weapons in Ctg

CHATTOGRAM, Jan 10, 2026 (BSS)- The joint force, in a special drive, arrested 
three members of a kidnapping gang along with drugs and locally-made weapons 
in Rangunia upazila of the district. 

The arrested were identified as Shahed Hasan, 35, Md. Abdus Salam, 22, and 
Obaidul Mustafa Sourav, 31. All are the residents of different areas in 
Rangunia upazila.

The operation led by Major Abu Shaker Bhuiyan resulted in the arrest of the 
suspects and the recovery of drugs, country-made weapons and cash.

During the drive, the joint force rescued a kidnapped youth, Rubel, 30, from 
Balughat Ward No. 8 of Pomra Union of the upazila. 

The team recovered 882 pieces of Yaba tablets, 3.1 kilograms of marijuana, 
and a significant amount of indigenous weapons while conducting a raid in one 
of the detainee's house. 

The weapons included two axes, 10 damas, two chapatis, 19 knives, one ramda, 
four hammers, nine ranges (small/large), four pliers, two cutters, two toy 
pistols, seven screwdrivers, two foil paper pipes, one iron pipe, one trowel, 
one plastic scale, one chisel, and two yellow ranges from their possession.
 
In addition, three passports, five smartphones, four button phones, and Taka 
one lakh 5 thousand 890, in cash, were seized during the operation.

The joint force reported that Obaidul Mustafa Sourav, who has been detained, 
is allegedly involved in drug dealing in the area for an extended period. His 
mother, Rubina Akhter, also a suspected of being involved in local drug 
dealing, was not apprehended during the operation. 

The arrested persons along with the seized drugs and weapons, were handed 
over to Rangunia Model Police Station at 3:10 am on Saturday.

Confirming the matter Rangunia Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. 
Arman Hossain said they have been charged separately and sent to court.
