3 candidates withdraw nominations in Satkhira, 19 remain in battle

SATKHIRA, Jan 21, 2026 (BSS) - Three candidates have withdrawn their nomination papers from four parliamentary constituencies in Satkhira district.  

According to the District Returning Officer’s office, LDP candidate Shafiqul Islam Shahed and AB Party candidate GM Salauddin withdrew their nominations from Satkhira-2, while Gono Odhikar Parishad candidate H. A. Golam Reza withdrew from Satkhira-4.

Following the withdrawals, a total of 19 candidates are contesting the upcoming national elections across the district’s four constituencies.

In Satkhira-1, five candidates remain in the race: BNP nominee Habibul Islam Habib, Jamaat-e-Islami’s Md. Izzat Ullah, Islamic Movement’s Sheikh Md. Rezaul Islam, Jatiya Party’s Ziaur Rahman, and Bangladesh Congress candidate Yarul Islam.

In Satkhira-2, after the withdrawal of two candidates, five contenders are left: BNP’s Abdur Rouf, Jamaat’s Muhaddis Abdul Khalek, Jatiya Party’s Ashrafuzzaman, Bangladesh Jasad’s Idris Ali, and Islamic Movement’s Mufti Rabiul Islam.

In Satkhira-3, independent Dr. Shahidul Alam did not withdraw his nomination paper. Alongside him, six candidates are contesting: BNP’s Kazi Alauddin, Jamaat’s Hafez Rabiul Bashar, Jatiya Party’s Alip Hossain, Islami Andolan’s Waze Kurni, and Bangladesh Muslim Jatiya Party (BMJP) candidate Rubel Hossain.

In Satkhira-4, following the withdrawal of Gono Odhikar Parishad candidate H. A. Golam Reza, three candidates remain: BNP’s Dr. Muhammad Moniruzzaman, Jamaat’s GM Nazrul Islam, and Islami Andolan’s HM Mizanur Rahman.
