Symbols allocated to 47 contestants in Tangail's 8 seats

TANGAIL, Jan 21, 2026 (BSS) - Symbols have been officially allocated to 47 
candidates contesting in Tangail's eight parliamentary constituencies for the 
upcoming 13th National Parliamentary elections.

District Returning Officer Sharifa Haque distributed the symbols to all 
independent candidates, as well as those representing political parties, on 
Wednesday afternoon. 

After receiving their symbols, the candidates pledged to work for public 
welfare. All of them announced that they will officially begin their election 
campaigns from Thursday [January 22].

District Senior Election Officer Muhammad Tajul Islam confirmed that symbols 
had been distributed to candidates in their respective constituencies, after 
which they returned to prepare for their campaigns.

A total of 65 candidates had submitted nomination papers for Tangail's eight 
parliamentary constituencies. After scrutiny, the District Returning Officer 
rejected 28 nominations, but 18 candidates successfully reinstated their 
candidacies following appeals to the Election Commission. The final day for 
withdrawal was Tuesday [January 20], when nine candidates withdrew their 
nominations.
