RAB recovers high-grade explosives from Sylhet

SYLHET, Jan 24, 2026 (BSS) – Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has recovered a batch of high-grade explosive materials during a raid in Sylhet district last night.

According to a press release issued by RAB-9 this morning, the recovery was made from the Bishwanath rail line adjoining area under South Surma Police Station. 

Acting on secret information, a RAB-9 team conducted an operation near Shibbari Rail-Line area of Ward No. 30 under south Surma Thana and recovered six Indian power gel sticks and five non-electric detonators from an old railway toilet.

No one was found at the spot during the operation, the release said.

Additional Superintendent of Police and Media Officer of RAB-9, K M Shahidul Islam Sohag, said the recovered power gel sticks and detonators are used to make high-grade explosives. 
The materials were stored there for destructive activities, as RAB assesses. 

He added that RAB-9 has launched an investigation to identify those involved in the incident.

The recovered explosives were handed over to South Surma Police Station and investigation to identify those involved in the incident is underway.
