People must protect from misinformation: Swapon

PABNA, April 3, 2026 (BSS) - Information and Broadcasting Minister Zahir Uddin Swapon has said freedom of press is very crucial to ensure flow of information, however it’s also equally important to protect the people from misinformation.

The minister said this while talking to journalists after inaugurating a tree plantation programme organized by the Young Journalist Forum at the Pabna Zila School premises this afternoon.

The minister said cyber space and digital media have brought enormous change in the concept information, but necessary laws were not updated accordingly to cope with the challenges.

Expressing his firm commitment to modernize the information ministry, Swapon said necessary and timely reforms will soon be introduced in this regard.

Parliament Member of Pabna Sadar constituency Advocate Shamsur Rahman Shimul Biswas, District BNP Convener Habibur Rahman Habib, Member Secretary Advocate Masud Khandakar, Pabna JASAS Convener Khaled Ahmed Parag, President of District Young Journalist Forum Tarek Khan and its General Secretary Roni Imran were present, among others.
