BAGERHAT, Feb 11, 2026 (BSS) - A total of 74 individuals, including 29 prisoners and 45 jail staff, have successfully cast their votes through the postal ballot system at Bagerhat District Jail.

This marks the first time prisoners have been given the opportunity to participate in voting for both the national elections and the referendum, according to the Election Commission (EC). 

Following a motivational program organized by the prison authorities, six registered prisoners expressed interest in voting in their respective areas after being released on bail.

The EC had sent postal ballot papers for the national elections, complete with party symbols, along with referendum ballot papers, voter instructions, and declarations to registered prisoners through the postal department. The voting process at the jail was completed over three days.

Bagerhat District Jail Jailer Khandaker Al-Mamun told BSS that 29 of the 35 registered prisoners cast their votes, while 45 officers and staff members also completed their voting.
