DHAKA, Feb 9, 2026 (BSS) - Chief Adviser's Special Assistant on Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb today said the interim government has prepared a comprehensive and combined legal framework on data protection and cyber governance within a very short time.

He made the remarks while addressing a high-level seminar titled "Personal Data Protection Ordinance, 2025: Framework, Insights and Practical Implications" as the chief guest at the Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel in the capital.

Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb said the government initially faced significant challenges in raising awareness among ministries and concerned organizations about the importance of data governance. However, he added, the interim government was able to establish the legal infrastructure through consultations with a wide range of stakeholders, including local and international experts, the World Bank, and the European Union.

He explained that data protection primarily covers two categories-personal data and general data-and noted that an initiative has been taken to establish a National Data Governance Authority for the first time. This authority, he said, will ensure proper data collection, protection, processing, and accountability in data exchange.

The special assistant further said that a complete data protection ecosystem has been developed through five legal instruments, including the Cyber Safety Ordinance, Personal Data Protection Act, Telecommunications Act, and Postal Service Ordinance.

The seminar was jointly organized by the Information and Communication Technology Division and the Enhancing Digital Government and Economy (EDGE) Project. Policymakers, ICT experts, academics, government officials, and other stakeholders attended the event.
