Ariful Haque stands by family of deceased remittance fighter in Kishoreganj

KISHOREGANJ, March 18, 2026 (BSS) - Minister for Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment and Labour and Employment Ariful Haque Chowdhury today visited the family of deceased remittance fighter Bachchu Mia at Katiadi upazila here and stood by their side. 

The minister expressed his condolences to the bereaved family and handed over a cheque for financial assistance on behalf of the government.

Bachhu Miah, a resident of Katiadi in Kishoreganj district was killed in a recent missile strike in Saudi Arabia.  

While talking to the family members, the minister said although Bachchu Mia is no longer among us, the government and the people of the country stand firmly beside his family.

Recalling the immense contribution of remittance fighters to the national economy, he said under the directives of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, the government will always stand by the expatriate workers in times of need and hardship.

During the meeting, the minister handed over a cheque worth about Taka 3,50,000 along with a gift from the Prime Minister to the victim’s family. He clarified that this support is not the end of the government’s assistance. 

He also instructed the local Upazila Nirbahi Officer to quickly identify government (khas) land to arrange permanent housing for the impoverished family. He further stated that all necessary expenses related to the deceased expatriate worker would be borne by the Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment.

Additionally, the minister assured the family that the government would pursue legal procedures to secure maximum possible compensation from the concerned company in Saudi Arabia.

Local MP Mohammad Jalal Uddin, Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment Dr. Niyamat Ullah Bhuiyan, Director General of the Wage Earners' Welfare Board Barrister Mohammad Golam Sarwar Bhuiyan, and Kishoreganj Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Aslam Mollah, along with other senior officials of the local administration, were present at that time.
