DHAKA, Mar 18, 2026 (BSS) - Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has directed the local administration to take necessary measures to minimise damage and reduce public suffering following a train accident at Santahar in Bogura, carrying homebound holidaymakers.

The Prime Minister spoke this evening with the Deputy Commissioner (DC) and Superintendent of Police (SP) of Bogura and inquired about the overall situation in the accident-hit area.

During the conversation, he instructed authorities to ensure the quick rescue of the train and to take necessary steps so that passengers can reach their destinations without delay.

Prime Minister’s Additional Press Secretary Atikur Rahman Ruman confirmed the matter, stating that the Prime Minister talked to the DC and the SP immediately over phone after learning about the train accident in Bogura.

He said Tarique Rahman directed the officials to ensure quick medical treatment for the injured passengers, restore transport communication and take all necessary actions to ease the sufferings of the travelers.

Earlier, the accident occurred around 2:30 pm today when nine coaches of the Nilphamari bound Nil Sagar Express from Dhaka derailed in the Alamdighi area of Bogura district, leaving over a hundred passengers injured.

The Prime Minister is closely monitoring the situation, particularly as Bogura has been his former electoral constituency. He was elected lawmaker from Bogura-6 in the 13th parliamentary elections held on February 12.

Later, Tarique Rahman gave up Bogura-6 parliamentary seat after taking oath as the Prime Minister.
