DHAKA, March 17, 2026 (BSS) - Intensive Care Unit (ICU) services have been resumed at the National Institute of Infectious Diseases Hospital (IDH) in Mohakhali within 24 hours, following a commitment by Health and Family Welfare Minister Sardar Md Sakhawat Husain.

The minister made the assurance while speaking to journalists during a late-night visit to the hospital on Monday.

The move comes amid a recent rise in measles cases, a viral infectious disease, which has led to an increased number of patient admissions at the hospital.

The minister rushed to the facility at midnight after receiving news of a child's death. He was accompanied by the Health Secretary and other senior officials, including the Director General of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

During the visit, Sakhawat Husain acknowledged certain limitations in healthcare services but emphasized that there was no negligence in patient care. He noted that ICU services had previously been suspended due to the expiration of funding under the ERPP project.

He assured that the ICU would be reactivated promptly, along with the deployment of necessary physicians, anesthetists and other required staff.
