DHAKA, March 18, 2026 (BSS) - Foreign Minister Dr Khalilur Rahman has reaffirmed Bangladesh’s strong commitment to gender equality and women’s empowerment, emphasizing access to justice for women and girls at the UN Commission on the Status of Women (CSW70).

He made the remarks while delivering Bangladesh’s national statement at the 70th session of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women held at the UN Headquarters in New York on Tuesday, according to a message received here today.

The foreign minister reiterated Bangladesh’s full commitment to advancing the goals of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action as well as the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

He underscored that ensuring access to justice for women and girls remains a central priority for Bangladesh.

Dr Rahman also highlighted the significant contributions of Bangladeshi women in United Nations peacekeeping operations.

He noted that challenges such as climate change, economic uncertainty, conflicts and the digital divide continue to create barriers, particularly for women in rural and vulnerable communities.

To address these issues, Bangladesh proposed strengthening justice systems through women’s leadership and enhancing regional and international cooperation to combat human trafficking.

The CSW70 is being held from March 9 to 19, 2026 in New York, focusing on improving access to justice, eliminating discriminatory laws and addressing structural barriers for women and girls worldwide.
