
DHAKA, March 18, 2026 (BSS)- The namaz-e-janaza of former BNP Member of
Parliament (MP) and veteran politician GM Fazlul Haque was held at the South
Plaza of the Jatiya Sangsad (JS) here today.
The namaz-e-janaza took place at 12:00pm led by Senior Imam of the Jatiya
Sangsad Secretariat, Muhammad Saifullah.
Earlier, Fazlul Haque's son spoke on behalf of the family seeking prayers for
eternal peace of his father's departed soul.
Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad Hafiz Uddin Ahmed, Bir Bikram, offered prayers
for the deceased departed soul and expressed deep condolences to the bereaved
family and the people of Chandpur-3 constituency.
He described GM Fazlul Haque as a man of integrity who dedicated himself to
serve the country. The Speaker later paid tribute by placing a wreath on the
coffin of the deceased.
Chief Whip of the Jatiya Sangsad Md Nurul Islam and Whip Mia Nuruddin Ahmed
Apu, along with Secretary of the Parliament Secretariat Kaniz Mowla and other
senior officials, also paid their respects by placing floral wreaths on the
coffin.
Following the tribute, prayers and supplications were offered seeking
forgiveness for the departed soul of GM Fazlul Haque.
Members of Parliament, the Sergeant-at-Arms and officials and employees of
the Parliament Secretariat attended the janaza prayers.
GM Fazlul Haque passed away on Tuesday evening at a private hospital in the
capital at the age of 79. He is survived by his wife, children, grandchildren
and numerous well-wishers.
He was elected MP from the Chandpur-3 constituency as a nominee of the
Bangladesh Nationalist Party in the seventh and eighth parliamentary
elections held in 1996 and 2001 respectively.
During his tenure, he made significant contributions to infrastructure
development, expansion of education and the growth of trade and industry in
his constituency.
