DHAKA, Feb 9, 2026 (BSS) - BNP-nominated candidate for Shariatpur-3 constituency (Damudya-Gosairhat-part of Bhedarganj) and former personal secretary to BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman, Mia Nuruddin Ahmed Apu, has said that he wants to rebuild Shariatpur anew by uniting everyone beyond political divisions.

"If BNP is elected by the people's votes, there is a clear plan to develop Shariatpur as a modern, model, and proud district under the 31-point programme announced by BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman," he told BSS in an exclusive interview ahead of 13th Jatiya Sansad elections.

BSS: What are your electoral commitments to the voters of your constituency?

Mia Nuruddin Ahmed Apu: Commitments are a common matter; everyone makes promises during elections. But Shariatpur is my family, and addressing the problems of this family is my commitment. We will build a humane Shariatpur where people of all races, religions, and backgrounds can live together peacefully, compassionately, and without discrimination. We will work together in harmony for the overall development of neglected Shariatpur, and this effort will continue.

BSS: What instructions have you given your leaders and activists regarding compliance with the election code of conduct?

Mia Nuruddin Ahmed Apu: The election campaign is nearing its end. From the very beginning, my leaders and activists have been following the code of conduct. I have personally instructed everyone to strictly comply with the Election Commission's code of conduct.

BSS: What is your position on the referendum regarding the July Charter?

Mia Nuruddin Ahmed Apu: A referendum means the people's vote. Everyone will vote according to their own choice.

BSS: What are your expectations regarding the upcoming national parliamentary election?

Mia Nuruddin Ahmed Apu: My expectation is that the people of Bangladesh, out of love for our beloved leader Tarique Rahman, will elect the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) with an overwhelming mandate in the February 12 election.

BSS: Shariatpur is considered a neglected district. What will be your first priority for its development?

Mia Nuruddin Ahmed Apu: Shariatpur is a neglected district. BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman has nominated me here to erase the very word 'neglected.' He has sent me to build Shariatpur into a model and proud district. Although Shariatpur is a district full of potential, it has long been neglected. The district still lags behind in education, healthcare, communication, and employment.

The 31-point programme announced by Tarique Rahman contains a comprehensive roadmap for infrastructure development, job creation, a modern education system, and quality healthcare services for this district.

If BNP comes to state power with the support of the people in the upcoming national parliamentary election, long-standing neglect of Shariatpur will be addressed through the implementation of the 31-point programme. Shariatpur will be developed as a modern, advanced, and people-friendly district. At the same time, BNP will work to restore people's voting rights and establish an accountable government.

BSS: You have faced imprisonment and repression for eight long years in the past. How do you reflect on that period?

Mia Nuruddin Ahmed Apu: I have faced severe persecution and remained imprisoned for eight long years. I have left everything to Almighty Allah.

It may be mentioned that the contestants in Shariatpur-3 constituency (Damudya-Gosairhat-part of Bhedarganj) are: Mia Nuruddin Ahmed Apu of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) with the Sheaf of Paddy symbol; Muhammad Azaharul Islam of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami with the Scales symbol; Md Abdul Hannan of Jatiya Party with the Plough symbol; and Hanif Mia of Islami Andolon Bangladesh with the Hand Fan symbol.
