
KHULNA, Feb 20, 2026 (BSS) - The district administration has undertaken elaborate programmes in Khulna to observe Martyrs' Day and International Mother Language Day 2026 with due respect, in line with the national observance schedule.
The main programme will begin at 12:01 am tomorrow with the placing of floral wreaths at the Central Shaheed Minar at Shaheed Hadis Park in Khulna, said a PID handout issued today.
People from all walks of life, including government officials, socio-cultural organisations and educational institutions, are expected to pay homage to the language martyrs.
At sunrise, the national flag will be kept at half-mast at all educational institutions and government, semi-government, autonomous and private buildings.
In observance of the day, a drawing and essay competition will be held at 9:30 am at the Nagar Bhaban, organised by Khulna City Corporation, with participation of students from different educational institutions.
Special prayers will be offered after Zuhr prayers at mosques, seeking eternal peace for the souls of the language martyrs and continued peace, progress and welfare of the country. Similar prayers and services will be arranged at temples, churches and other places of worship to commemorate the martyrs.
A discussion meeting, poetry recitation and prize-giving ceremony for various competitions will be held at 11:00 am at the auditorium of Khulna Shilpakala Academy.
Later in the evening, a mobile film show and a special Ekushey poster exhibition will be organised at Shaheed Hadis Park by the District Information Office.
The PID handout said upazilas across the district will also observe the day through similar programmes in harmony with national and district-level initiatives taken by the district administration.
Meanwhile, Khulna BNP will observe the day at 12:01 am on February 21 by placing floral wreaths at the Central Shaheed Minar at Shaheed Hadis Park in the city.
At sunrise, the national flag and party flag will be kept at half-mast at the party office, and a discussion meeting and Doa Mahfil will be held after Zuhr prayers.
Besides, Khulna University, Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET), Khulna Press Club, Khulna Metropolitan Journalists Union (MUJ), among other organisations, will also observe different programmes to mark the day.
