4 arrested for selling horse meat in Tangail

TANGAIL, Feb 24, 2026 (BSS) - Police arrested four individuals on Monday night while they were allegedly slaughtering horses and preparing the meat for sale in Gopalpur upazila of the district.

According to local sources, 12 horses had been gathered at the residence of Md. Hafizur Rahman in Charer Bita village under Dhopakandi union of Gopalpur upazila for slaughter. Of them, eight horses were reportedly being slaughtered and processed.

On receiving information about the incident, local residents rushed to the scene, detained four individuals involved in preparing and packaging the meat, and later handed them over to police.

The arrested persons were identified as Md. Hridoy, 23, son of Hasan Hawlader of Jamgara area in Ashulia Thana of Dhaka, Md. Sumon, 20, son of the late Wazed Ali of Taibpur area in the Thana, Md. Farhad, 30, and Aminul Islam, 24, son of Mofazzal Hossain of Aditomari upazila in Lalmonirhat district.

Sub-Inspector Abbas Uddin of Gopalpur Police Station confirmed the incident, stating that police rushed to the spot upon receiving information and took the four individuals into custody.

He added that further legal action would be taken against the arrested persons and necessary steps would be taken regarding the rescued horses.
