Two jailed for cutting topsoil in Satkania

CHATTOGRAM, Feb 24, 2026 (BSS) – Two persons have been arrested and sentenced to three months in prison for illegally cutting and selling topsoil from agricultural land in Satkania upazila.

The convicts are Shahadat Hossain Hridoy, 22, and Tapan Das, 45. 

The operation was conducted by an army team led by Camp Commander Captain SM Sakibuzzaman Shamim Parvez in the Nayakhal area near Pathanipool from midnight to 2:30 am on Monday.

Satkania Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) and Executive Magistrate Shamsuzzaman confirmed the arrests, stating that the offenders were handed over to the police following a mobile court trial. They were sentenced to three months in prison.

In addition, eight excavators and 16 dump trucks were seized on the spot.
