MEHERPUR, Feb 26, 2026 (BSS) - A court here today sentenced a man to life term imprisonment for killing his wife in Gangni upazila of the district in 2018. 

District and Sessions Judge Md. Golam Kabir delivered the verdict on Thursday afternoon.

The court also fined convict is Rezaul Islam, 48, Taka one lakh, in default, to suffer six months more in jail.

According to Public Prosecutor Nazrul Islam, the murder took place on November 15, 2018, in Dhala village of Gangni upazila, where Rezaul strangled his wife Jahanara to death. After the crime, attempts were made to disguise the death as natural, and efforts were made to hide the body and mislead investigators.

However, an autopsy report revealed that Jahanara had been strangled, disproving claims of natural death. Witness testimony from neighbors and relatives, along with Rezaul's own confession in court, confirmed the murder.
