RANGPUR, Feb 26, 2026 (BSS) – Member of Parliament (MP) from Rangpur-3 constituency Mahbubur Rahman Belal has said that the broker syndicate at Rangpur Medical College Hospital (RpMCH) will be eliminated. 
 
“For this, a well-planned action plan will be adopted and implemented and a local committee will be formed with the joint efforts of the administration and law enforcement agencies,” he said. 
 
He said this while exchanging views with journalists after visiting Rangpur Medical College Hospital in the city’s Dhap area on Thursday afternoon.
 
Mahbubur Rahman said that a syndicate is active in every area of the hospital. Taking advantage of the manpower shortage, brokers are entering in the name of 'voluntary service' and are extorting money from patients as they wish. I have witnessed the matter firsthand.”
 
He said, "Since many members of the syndicate are local, they exert influence and threaten. As a result, nurses and doctors suffer from insecurity and are often forced to give them a chance.”
 
To overcome this situation, a monitoring committee will be formed with local residents, administration and dignitaries, he said. 
 
The MP mentioned that an average of 2,500 patients is admitted to this 1,000-bed hospital every day. But the manpower is still being managed according to the old structure of 600 beds. 

"The quality of service is being severely hampered due to the lack of manpower increase for a long time,” he said. 
 
He commented that it is impossible to ensure complete service without increasing the number of beds and manpower. 
 
Expressing concern about the cleanliness of the hospital, he said, "It is not desirable to have garbage lying everywhere. It is very worrying that people come for treatment and instead face health risks." 

He requested the hospital director to ensure at least basic cleanliness and order despite the manpower shortage. 
 
The MP alleged that in the past, this hospital was not inquired about or provided necessary assistance. 

He urged the government to consider RpMCH as an important departmental institution, and increase the number of beds; manpower and budget immediately to enable the people of the northern region to get their desired healthcare. 

Earlier, he held a meeting with the hospital's director, Brigadier General Md Ashikur Rahman, to discuss the overall situation. He also visited various wards including the CCU and gave necessary advice.
