Two sisters killed after being run over by truck in Laksam

CUMILLA, Feb 26, 2026 (BSS) - Two sisters were killed after being crushed under a speeding truck while crossing the road in Laksam upazila of the district today.

The accident occurred around 5:45 pm in the Khila Uttar Bazar area on the Cumilla-Noakhali regional highway, near the Rajapur Darbar Sharif gate under Uttarda Union.

The deceased were identified as Jahanara Begum, 65, wife of the late Mobarak Hossain of Rajapur village in Uttarda Union, and her elder sister Anwara Begum, 70, wife of the late Abul Khayer of Gazimura village under Ward No. 7 of Laksam Municipality.

According to locals, the victims were crossing the road from the eastern side to the western side of Khila Uttar Bazar in the afternoon when a speeding truck ran over them. Both died on the spot. 

Officer-in-Charge (OC) Sarkar Abdullah Al Mamun of Laksam Highway Crossing Police Station said highway police rushed to the scene upon receiving the news and recovered the bodies. 

After completing legal formalities, the bodies will be handed over to their families. He also stated that efforts are underway to identify the truck involved and take legal action.
