DHAKA, Feb 26, 2026 (BSS) - Agriculture, Food, and Fisheries and Livestock Minister Mohammed Amin Ur Rashid today said through proper planning, efficient management, and effective field-level initiatives, it is possible to establish agro-products as the country's main export commodity.

"If young officers adopt a field-oriented approach, the country's agricultural potential can be converted into economic strength, while ensuring food security and supporting socio-economic development," he said.

The Minister made these remarks while speaking as the chief guest at the closing ceremony of a five-day orientation course for newly appointed cadre officers of the 44th BCS (Livestock), held this afternoon at the Soil Resource Development Institute in the city.

Amin Ur Rashid said that many countries remain snow-covered for four to eight months a year. Despite their limited agricultural seasons, they have made agriculture the backbone of their economies.

He added that, with Bangladesh's favorable climate and fertile soil, crop production is possible throughout the year, but more initiatives are needed to achieve the desired economic outcomes.

Addressing the young officers, he said, "You are entrusted with the responsibility of serving the people. If the country's natural and agricultural resources are managed properly, future generations will inherit a prosperous, sustainable, and thriving Bangladesh."

He added, "If you work in the field with honesty, responsibility, and efficiency, Bangladesh can build a strong economic foundation in agriculture and food security."

Abu Taher Muhammad Jabir, Secretary of the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock, attended the event as special guest.

Dr. Md. Abu Sufian, Director General of the Department of Livestock Services, presided over the programme, while Dr. Md. Boijar Rahman, Director of the department, delivered the welcome address.

Dr. Begum Samia Sultana, Director General of the Soil Resource Development Institute, and senior officials from the ministry and its departments were also present. Later, the Minister distributed certificates to the meritorious young officers.
