5.1 magnitude earthquake jolts capital

DHAKA, Feb 26, 2026 (BSS) - A moderate earthquake measuring 5.1 on the Richter scale jolted different parts of the country including the capital tonight, according to the Met Office.

The tremor struck at 10:51:49 pm (BST). The epicentre was located in Myanmar, approximately 462 kilometres east of the BMD seismic centre in Agargaon, Dhaka, said BMD Assistant Meteorologist Farzana Sultana.

The quake was felt in various regions across the country, including Dhaka city. However, it was experienced more intensely in Cox's Bazar and nearby areas.

No immediate reports of damage or casualties were received following the tremor, the department said.
