DHAKA, Feb 25, 2026 (BSS) - Myanmar foreign minister Than Swe has congratulated his newly appointed Bangladesh counterpart Dr. Khalilur Rahman.
For the first time, Chairman of the United League of Arakan (also the head of the Arakan Army) Twan Mrat Naing also has sent a congratulatory letter to the Bangladesh Foreign Minister.
Myanmar Foreign Minister Than Swe has expressed firm commitment to enhancing bilateral relations and strengthening cooperation between Naypyidaw and Dhaka.
The ULA Chairman Naing wrote to Rahman: "In your new capacity as the Foreign Minister of Bangladesh, I hope you will continue to work with us to find practical, sustainable and realistic solutions. Building on our existing goodwill, we now have an opportunity to chart a new course of friendship between Bangladesh and Arakan."
The messages appeared to be indicative of readiness of both the Myanmar government, and the Arakan Army and ULA (AA) to work with the newly-formed Bangladesh government to find a resolution to the Rohingya crisis.
Foreign Minister Rahman recently indicated that the Bangladesh government has been in contact with both the Myanmar government and the Arakan Army in this regard.
"The messages from Myanmar and Arakan Army authorities are an extraordinary event and have come in the wake of continued engagement. They reflect their confidence in the new Bangladesh government in promoting a peaceful resolution of the Rohingya issue through continued contacts and dialogue," a senior foreign ministry official told BSS this evening.
Bangladesh has also been engaging other key countries and the United Nations in advancing an early, durable and peaceful solution of this longstanding issue.
The Rohingya community in the recent past voiced on their right to return to their ancestral homes in the Rakhine State of Myanmar.
They expressed similar aspiration at the Cox's Bazar multi-stakeholder dialogue held in last August and at the high-level conference of the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly on 30 September 2025.
The international community acknowledged the importance of inclusion of their voice in crafting their future and right to return to their homes in Myanmar.
