
CHUADANGA, March 1, 2026 (BSS) - A shopkeeper was fined Taka 70,000 today for selling baby food products without expiry dates and repackaging goods under his own company name.
The fine was imposed during a market monitoring drive conducted by the National Consumer Rights Protection Department in Damurhuda upazila on the occasion of the holy month of Ramadan.
According to a press release issued by the department’s Chuadanga District Office, the drive was carried out in the Mostafapur and Damurhuda bus stand areas as part of a regular enforcement campaign. Essential commodity shops, hotels, pharmacies and grocery stores were inspected during the drive.
Md. Mofizur Rahman, proprietor of M/s CP Food Products, was fined. Authorities found that the business had packaged products of other companies under its own label and failed to provide production and expiration dates on flavoring ingredients used in baby food.
Officials directed the shop owner to correct the irregularities immediately and ensure compliance with consumer protection laws.
The drive was led by Mohammad Mamunul Hasan, Assistant Director of the Chuadanga District Office of the Consumer Rights Protection Department. Representatives from the Consumers Association of Bangladesh (CAB), including Md. Rafiqul Islam, and members of the police assisted in the operation.
Authorities said such monitoring efforts will continue to protect consumers and maintain market discipline during Ramadan.
