Pedestrian killed in Cox's Bazar road mishap

COX'S BAZAR, March 8, 2026 (BSS) - An elderly man was killed and two others 
were injured in a road accident in Jiddabazar station area of Lakshyachar 
Union under Chakaria upzila of the district last night.

The deceased was identified as Rafiqul Islam, 73, a resident of the union.

The accident occurred around 11.30 pm when a speeding bus of 'Saudia 
Paribahan' hit pedestrian Rafiqul and crash into a pickup van, which lost 
control and overturned onto a group of people sitting in front of a local 
shop on the west side of the road.

Rafiqul was quickly rushed to the Chakaria Upazila Health Complex. Later, he 
succumbed to his injuries while being transferred to the Chittagong Medical 
College and Hospital (CMCH).

Two other individuals were also seriously injured in the accident. They are 
currently receiving treatment at a local hospital.

Chiringa Highway Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Ariful Amin confirmed 
the matter.
